Coworking was a growing trend long before the global pandemic forced a shift to a more flexible approach to getting work done.
In Oakville, Ont., alternawork has been offering private offices, dedicated workstations, and virtual offices since 2017. Catering to the needs of the booming tech community in Toronto and the GTA, the 25,000-square-foot coworking facility offers shared boardrooms, event space, enterprise-class infrastructure, and high-speed internet.
The Challenge
The Oakville facility is home to multiple tech and creative companies, says Richard Myers, President and co-founder of alternawork Inc. With 24 / 7 access to the building through a provided key fob, members can create their own flexible work schedule.
“We don’t have a receptionist, or a shipping and receiving department,” says Myers. “Our facility is fully automated.”
Needing a secure and efficient way to manage parcel deliveries to multiple companies, alternawork installed Snaile smart lockers in the facility’s main lobby in 2018.
The Solution
Smart lockers allow coworking tenants to receive packages to their alternawork office, without worrying about missing a delivery or trying to track it down.
When a courier places a parcel into the smart locker, the recipient receives a notification through text or email. Using the provided PIN or QR code, they can pick up the delivery at their convenience, and know that it is securely locked away until then.
The Results
“Our members love the smart lockers,” says Myers.
He notes that having the touchless delivery system in place helped alternawork keep its doors open during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when limiting contacts and maintaining social distance were paramount.
“With carrier companies dropping requirements for a signature for commercial deliveries because of the pandemic, the smart lockers really became the perfect solution for us.”
At alternawork, we’re always integrating the latest technology into our coworking offices to hep things run as smoothly as possible.”
